Dear Mr. Gough,
re: the registration of the "Imperial Lhasa Apso"
As you are aware I have been involved with Mr. Gerald D'Aoust since he started importing Lhasa Apsos into Canada from India and Nepal.
On Gerald's second visit to Khathmandu (Nepal) he was able to obtain an interview with Lama Ghen Yeshi. Gerald brought back to Canada some of the Lama's stock. It was then that I really became interested in what Gerald was importing. I listened to the tapes of the interview and studied the pictures that Gerald took at this time. I also studied each litter as the pups were born to this imported stock and helped Gerald set up a pedigree on each litter also suggesting that he attach a picture of the Sire and Dam with each pedigree. This he did.
To satisfy myself further on the pureness of the stock of Lama Ghen Yeshi, I traveled to Khatmandu in April of this year, with the express purpose of interviewing Lama Ghen Yeshi. He granted me an audience and I spent several hours questioning and talking with him. He allowed me to tape this interview. I studied the Lhasa Apsos that were in his compound and I came away certain that these dogs were of a pure strain. They have many of the characteristics that I was told to look for when I was trying to obtain my first pair of Lhasa Apsos some twenty-eight years ago.
If these "Imperial Lhasa Apsos" are registered by the Canadian Kennel Club the standard of the "Imperial Lhasa Apso" would deviate in several aspects from the standard of the Lhasa Apso. As I was instrumental in rewriting the standard of the Lhasa Apso I would be only too willing to establish, along with Gerald D'Aoust, a standard for the "Imperial Lhasa Apso".
I feel that this stock from the Lama Ghen Yeshi are pure and are worthy of being registered as Purebred "Imperial Lhasa Apso".
Yours Truly,
Mrs. Barbara Ratledge
